Overview

A member of the Arif Habib Group contributing to transformative growth.

The Arif Habib Group Consortium is the private corporate collective that owns 100% of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). Led by the prominent Pakistani conglomerate Arif Habib Corporation Limited, the group officially took complete management and operational control of the national flag carrier in June 2026, marking the conclusion of Pakistan's historic aviation privatization process.

Ownership & Consortium Structure
The consortium operates PIA through a dedicated special purpose vehicle called PIA Equity Ltd (PIAEL). The total acquisition and investment commitment stands at Rs. 180 billion. This includes Rs. 55 billion paid directly to the government as divestment proceeds and an immediate injection of Rs. 125 billion in fresh equity to restructure operations.
The shares are distributed among major Pakistani corporate entities under the following pattern:
  • Fatima Fertilizer Company Limited: 34.1% (Lead Owner)
  • Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC) Limited: 33.9%
  • Lake City Holdings: 16.0%
  • The City School & AKD Group: 16.0% (combined)

Strategic Turnaround Blueprint
The new management board, chaired by Lt. Gen. Anwar Ali Haider, has initiated a phased master plan to revitalize the loss-making airline:
  • Fleet Expansion: Plans are underway to expand PIA's operational fleet from 18 aircraft to a targeted 38 and eventually 64 aircraft in phases.
  • Route Re-development: Capitalizing on the lifted EU and UK flight bans, the consortium is aggressively restoring lucrative international long-haul routes.
  • Employee Protection: To maintain operational stability, the consortium has formally committed to a 12-month job security guarantee, ensuring no employee layoffs during the first year of private management.
  • System Modernization: Fresh capital is being directed toward upgrading consumer-facing mobile ecosystems, passenger services, and digital booking platforms.
